Planning is underway for this year’s summer reading program: Read, Renew, Repeat! We’ll be having some fun with this theme that ties into conservation, recycling, and ecosystems.

The summer reading program will begin on Monday, June 3, and will run until the end of August. Beginning June 3, kids and teens can sign up for the free, self-paced program that encourages them to read on their own time and do other activities that are healthy for them, such as getting exercise and going outside. When they complete a game sheet or a reading log, they can bring it back to the library for a small prize. Kids can complete the reading sheets over and over all summer. It’s a great idea for kids to keep reading all summer so that they keep up their reading skills for school in the fall.

Kids can sign up for the program any time, all summer long.

The Cosmos Library has some special events happening this summer that families will want to put on their calendars:

Friday, June 14, 2:00 p.m.: CLIMB Theatre presents “Country Mouse & City Mouse: Adventures in the Suburbs,” a short interactive play for children. Free; no need to sign up in advance.

Thursday, June 20, 3:00 p.m.: Upcycle art class for kids. Free to attend but space is limited; sign up by calling the library at 320-440-1012 or stopping in.

Friday, July 5, 2:00 p.m.: DNR Naturalist children’s program about birds. Free; no need to sign up.

Friday, July 12, 2:00 p.m.: Science Museum of Minnesota dinosaur program. Free; no need to sign up.

Friday, July 19, 5:00-8:00 p.m.: Space Fest mini golf in the community room. Free; no need to sign up.

In May, kids ages ages 5-18 are invited to build with Legos in the library at Cosmos Creation Club on Monday the 20^th from 2-3 p.m. No need to sign up or bring anything. Children ages 5-7 will need to have a caregiver at least 12 years old attend the program with them.

Pioneerland libraries will be closed on Monday, May 27, for Memorial Day.

The Cosmos Library’s hours are Mondays 10-5, Tuesdays 2-5, Thursdays 2-6, Fridays 2-5, and Saturdays 10-1.
